Maniototo Activities
Maniototo is a region full of exciting, beautiful and enriching adventures for the whole family to experience.
Starting with the famed Otago Central Rail Trail. This 150km world-renowned cycle trail makes its way through Central Otago along, what was formally, the Otago Central branch railway line, showing off some of New Zealand’s most spectacular landscapes and historic sites. Many cyclists arrange with their tour operators or local transfer companies, to transport them to our curling rink so they can spend a few hours enjoying all we have to offer.
In addition to the Rail Trail there are many other mountain biking routes in and around.
Naseby has many tramping and walking tracks to be explored. Local tour operators also offer amazing 4WD Safari experiences through the tussock lands, gold fields and one of Lord of the Rings New Zealand film locations.
Naseby is also well known for its epic mountain biking trails through the forest. With over 52kms of trails, ranging from beginner to advanced, there is something for everyone.
Maniototo is a region that has a fascinating history and is full of interesting heritage experiences to explore. From the 1930’s Art Deco architecture in the town of Ranfurly, to the remnants of the gold mining era, there is much to see and do.
Stop in at the old railway station, which now houses the i-Site for some further information and history of the region.
The Local Taieri River also offers a great day out for keen spin-anglers to enjoy some fishing. Finally, for those who want to cool off on the hot summer days there is always fun to be had in some of the local swimming spots such as the Naseby Swimming Dam or the Kyeburn or Sowburn river.
